Well, this day has been coming for a while, and today it is official. Microsoft is releasing its final round of security updates and patches for Server 2003 and officially retiring the operating system. We won’t go into too much detail in this post, since we’ve already covered it in previous blogs.
As this article from SiliconANGLE states, there are some very legitimate reasons to be moving up to a newer Server operating system: http://siliconangle.com/blog/2015/07/14/its-d-day-for-windows-server-2003-as-microsoft-ends-support/
This will present one of the biggest security risks in the computer world since the retirement of Windows XP: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/computing/servers/windows-server-2003-end-of-life-is-the-biggest-security-threat-of-2015-1289390
So, whether you move to the cloud or just upgrade to a newer server operating system, we strongly recommend that you meet with a professional IT support company soon to discuss a game plan for moving forward, if you haven’t done so already.
Let’s be careful out there!
