Well, folks, it's been a really busy summer for PJ Networks and all of our clients - and that's a good thing!
But, we do apologize for not publishing more blog posts about recent cybersecurity news, ransomware attacks and the latest technology, which is something that we will get back on track with in the coming weeks. All summer long, we have been working with the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center and First Citizens Bank to put together and present free cybersecurity workshops for small businesses in the local community, and this Friday we will be presenting the final one in the Summer series, which will focus on financial services and transactions.
This initiative originated with the Small Business Administration, which encouraged state and local government agencies to create and promote educational workshops to help teach local businesses how to become more secure from cyber attacks, more aware of the ways that data can be breached and compromised, and more diligent about protecting personal, financial and medical information that their data systems contain.
It's not too late to sign up for the final workshop, and we would like to encourage every local business to send at least one employee to this workshop, if you haven't attended one already, to learn about cybersecurity and then take that information back to share with the rest of the staff. There is no one silver bullet that can provide 100% cybersecurity protection to any business; every employee that uses a computer to access the Internet or send and receive e-mails needs to be diligent and aware of the many ways that systems can be compromised and data can be breached. Just one employee opening an infected e-mail attachment can unleash a powerful ransomware infection that can destroy valuable data and cripple an entire organization, like the Wannacry and Petya viruses that have been in the news this summer.
