Cybercriminals can’t ‘pass go’ without your iPhone passcode.

If you haven’t already, it might be worth considering an extra layer of security to protect yourself against cyber thieves with Advanced Data Protection (ADP), or Stolen Device Protection (SDP). This advanced safeguard makes it even harder for cybercriminals to gain access to your phone using the passcode associated with your account.

In response to the rising cyber threats, Apple recognizes the need to adopt additional security measures to safeguard your information. Apple has developed a stronger level of privacy protection as thieves are becoming more sophisticated in accessing your data.

If you have enabled SDP and your phone is discovered in an unknown place, Apple’s facial recognition and a passcode will be required for users to perform sensitive actions.

With Advanced Data Protection enabled, your backups and important files get that end-to-end encryption benefit, better securing your files against mass surveillance or potential data leaks. Advanced Data Protection is designed to maintain end-to-end encryption for shared content if all participants have Advanced Data Protection enabled. This level of protection is supported in most iCloud sharing features, including iCloud Shared Photo Library, iCloud Drive shared folders, and shared Notes.

You can secure your entire Apple account and iCloud data by enabling ADP on a single device through optional settings on iPhones and iPads running iOS 16.2 or newer, or a Mac running MacOS 13.1.
